University Projects Hardy Advanced Composites have been involved with many exciting projects with U.K. universities including; Imperial College London  "Our air-bearing elastic base is used for research on fluid-dynamics in a water channel at the Department of Aeronautics of Imperial College London. We needed a pair of long carbon fibre tubes to be used as guiding pipes sliding through four air bearings. The tubes were required to support the loads acting on the model without compromising the stiffness of the base. The mass of the tubes was also another important factor and had to be as low as possible. And finally, the most difficult requirement, the 1.2m long tubes had to be machined on the outside diameter keeping the circumference and alignment throughout the length.
